A thought that many Americans may be having recently is that we are living in unprecedented times. Meaning that
actions that are unfolding on our soil have never happened before or that our government hasn’t ever been this cruel. This is an ignorant thing to think and easy to have if you haven’t been paying attention to America’s international actions. I won’t get into the nitty gritty of the details but many people point out the dehumanization of our warfare. Having drones strike many civilian targets in the Middle East and other places around the world galvanized Trump to do the same actions. The way our marines treated foreign citizens is the same brutal tactics currently being used on my neighbors. Cruelty has always been America’s go to tactic and it is effective. This doesn’t make your everyday American a lover of cruel behavior nor am I saying this means Americans endorse this behavior; this has simply been the state of things since our nation's founding.
We as a nation have always been eager to exploit the labor of the easiest to take advantage of, and then dress it up as people working their way out of poverty. Yet the system is built on keeping the poor poorer and the rich richer. Now that more are opening their eyes to this cruel cycle the mask slips entirely and they are more than happy to embrace fascism because they think it’ll keep them in power. Them/they referring to the rich elite and handful of corporations that have been running America since its inception. You may consider this a tin foil hat or conspiracy but it’s not. Both Republicans and Democrats are just two sides of the same corporate coin. There are some individuals that are making an earnest attempt to change things but they are silenced by the massive majority of corporate backed politicians holding office. It’s truly infuriating to hear the popular opinion that business should stay neutral when corporations are constantly funding both parties every year and then writing it off on their taxes. America is not the land of the free, it’s the land of the businessman.
The identity politics and “woke” agenda is nothing more than a cultural divide generated by the beings in power to sow division between the masses. Many Americans have fallen for it hook line and sinker, making their entire lives nothing but a tool for the wealthy. There are many Americans that have cheered ICE’s actions against Renee Good and Alex Pretti. They happily eat from the hand that takes everything from them and cheer on the violence because they are conditioned to. This has been decades of propaganda and brainwashing to condition them to it and I will feel nothing but pity for them. This does not excuse any of this behavior and is simply me saying that I know them better than they know themselves. They have chosen to reject their humanity willingly and deserve to be treated as the non-human scum they are.
By all means if you want to see this violence continue then keep on your current trajectory. Only time will tell who will get to write the history books but my stance will not change. ICE is a domestic terrorist organization and Donald Trump is a traitor to the American people. Just because we were built on cruelty doesn’t mean that we have to continue the practice. It can be hard and impossible to imagine a world where we are past these awful times and we may not live to see that world. That will not stop me from pursuing the America I want. One where we don’t exploit the labor of millions only to build wealth for a select few. One where immigrants aren’t demonized and are thanked for their work and treated like fellow human beings. One where we don’t police the world and force our gross economic system of endless growth, and instead we focus on sustaining what we have now and for future generations. This is the America I choose to fight for in these unprecedented times and the America I’d go to the grave for. Perhaps this is too drastic of a change for the American nation and we will need to dissolve and make something entirely new but until we as a nation are actually gone I will continue on trying to bring us back from this. For those in the Twin Cities please continue the work you’re already doing and try to remain safe if possible. Try to stick to traveling in groups and consider that your neighbor may be as scared as you so reach out. FUCK ICE!
