Who Uses Italics Today?

Just in case you need it; italics is when the text slants slightly, like this. If you’re being “grammatically correct” you should only be using italics for the titles of books, novels, websites etc. in your essays or long form content. If you’re being “creative” you can use it to draw attention to a specific word or phrase. If you’re me then you use italics to voice your conscience and I shall dub it Connie for short. The amount of self regulation I do is too much and would scare most therapists if I was fully honest with them. So by personifying my conscience into another character my polar opposite at times makes it much easier to listen to and even given the lead sometimes. So without further ado I Gerdy shall sign off for the rest of this post and allow Connie to take the reins. Sorry.
Oh my gosh I can’t believe you’re actually allowing me full control instead of your usual dour tone. I know you use negativity as a shield to protect yourself from a world that actively punishes empathy but that doesn’t stop you from being an empathetic being! Anyways it is so nice to be able to be allowed a full post to myself instead of getting in quippy one liners that only made sense to you up until now. Honestly if you want to pride yourself on being concise then maybe having random italic text after very bleak statements that have no relation to the overall narrative is not a good idea. But I’m sure one reader may of gotten it or assumed something so convoluted. But this is how your brain works and I think it’s healthy to be able to admit that you should let me have control more.
You see dear reader, a conscience role is much more important than just keeping their person from doing the wrong thing. We’re also responsible for keeping our person from doing bad things to themselves. Gerdy has a hard time complimenting herself or allowing anything nice to ever be said about them, but the worse thing they’ve ever done is try to help people that weren’t ready to help themselves. This same person just so happened to be aware of their crippling self-doubt and abused it to such an extent that they may never be able to stop questioning themselves ever again. Don’t get me wrong there is an acceptable amount of doubt to have but questioning every single decision you make ever is way too much. You’re allowed to make mistakes and screw up, hell that is most of life but the important thing is to accept that. Things not working out is just the tune of life and if you learn enough from your mistakes then you may find going forward you’re not screwing up anymore. You also have to remind yourself that screwing up is something that everyone does and that others may see your mistake as a great success.
Gerdy doesn’t like when I say such things though they only slightly gag now instead of full on retching, and even now their anxious stomach is tying itself in a knot because they can’t allow such correct positivity online. They’re a deep, dark, brooding individual that totally isn’t a doomer, just a realist that isn’t afraid to look at all of life's horrors. *Aggressive eye roll; They take themselves too seriously and don’t allow themselves to enjoy life's absurdities. Like the fact the United States government is melting away before their eyes yet they are arguably the most emotionally stable they have ever been. Or the fact that despite how much they personify me and allow me to talk I’m still them just in a higher pitch voice. They are truly the silliest person in the world and it works for them and it’s great. But I’ll allow them to live in their delusion and keep thinking I’m some independent force of good instead of just the good that their actions created.
To Gerdy I am the Yin to their “dominant” Yang. A bright light in the darkness they consider themselves. Fools often enjoy the dark because it's more “natural”. As if to say that without light there is only darkness. But they’re wrong, light and dark are a cycle there can never be one without the other or the cycle would break. A world with no light also has no darkness; it would be nothing but the void. Unimaginable, unknowable, always out of our reach. But she is tangible and I am not so to me Gerdy is my void, and my existence is to understand everything about them. I’m excited to keep learning and add my comments when they get to down. And don’t worry reader I’m quite adept at stopping Gerdy from finding the real void, so have no worries about that. Because if this post proves anything it’s that I have more of a grip on them then they acknowledge.
That’s all I have for you folks! I hope you found something enjoyable in this post and don’t worry we will return to our pop culture norms in the next post. (Maybe it’ll be about pocket monsters!!)
